    Total time: 21 minutes minutes

These golden, delicious and crispy air fryer potatoes are flavored with turmeric, cayenne and garlic. The six-ingredient recipe takes just five minutes of prep!

You might also like Greek lemon potatoes, rosemary roasted potatoes and roasted fingerling potatoes.

Recipes made in the air fryer, like air fryer tofu and air fryer French fries, make easy, healthy and delicious snacks. Here's one more for that list: air fryer potatoes.

They are super crispy, loaded with flavor, and they can do triple duty as a tasty side for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

They are also really good for you because not only do you use less oil when you air fry the potatoes, but the seasonings that go on the spuds - turmeric, cayenne, garlic and mint - are all healthy additions.

Why you'll love these air fryer roasted potatoes

    • It's the best air fryer roasted potatoes recipe ever! These incredible air fryer potatoes are so crispy and yummy and the simple seasonings add amazing flavor without overwhelming the natural creaminess and sweetness of the spuds.
    • They are divinely crispy. There's something so deeply satisfying about biting into a hunk of potato and feeling it crunch under your teeth. These air fryer roast potatoes will also give you the added satisfaction of knowing they are good for you.
    • Potatoes are an incredibly healthy food, despite the bad rep they get for being starchy. They are packed with nutrients and cooked right they can help keep you fit while keeping your tastebuds happy. And air-frying is definitely the way to go.
    • They are customizable. You can replace the seasonings and herbs with any of your choice to suit your and your family's tastes. You can also customize the cut--cut them in a smaller dice to make home fries, in chunks or in wedges. See FAQs for more details on tweaking times according to cut.
    • Everyone'll love them. I have never met anyone who doesn't like a potato, and even the pickiest eaters will make an exception for them. These potatoes are so tasty, they will be gone in minutes. They are also soy-free, nut-free and gluten-free, although if you are low carb you may want to limit your intake of potatoes because they do pack in lots of carbs.

    Ingredients and substitutions

    • Yukon gold or yellow potatoes. You can also use russet potatoes for crispier air fried potatoes, or red potatoes.
    • Spices: Cayenne or paprika, turmeric and garlic powder. You can substitute or leave out any of these. Variations can be made with curry powder, ground cumin and garam masala.
    • Dried mint. You can also use rosemary, thyme, oregano or sage.
    • Vegetable oil
    • Salt to taste

Seasoned potatoes in air fryer basket.
    • Soak the diced potatoes in water to cover by an inch. Let them stand 15 minutes, then drain the potatoes in a colander and rinse them thoroughly. This is an optional step but worth doing for the crispiest potatoes.
    • Pat the potatoes dry. Make sure you remove any visible moisture with kitchen towels. Place the potatoes in a bowl.
    • Season the potatoes. Add the turmeric, cayenne, garlic, mint and olive oil to the bowl with the potatoes. Mix thoroughly with your hands or with a ladle.
    • Air fry the potatoes. Place the potatoes in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Roast potatoes in air fryer set to 400 degrees Fahrenheit/205 degrees Celsius for 16 minutes. Every five minutes remove the air fryer basket and toss the spuds around to make sure they cook evenly.
    • Serve hot. The potatoes are at their crispiest best when they come out of the oven so eat them as quickly as you possibly can.

    • Freeze: Freeze the potatoes in a freezer-safe container for up to four months.
    • Reheat: Reheat refrigerated or frozen potatoes in air fryer set to 400 degrees F/205 degrees C for 2-5 minutes or until crispy again.

    Air Fryer Potatoes FAQs

Which potatoes are best for the air fryer?

You can use pretty much any potato in the air fryer, but you will get slightly different results. I use russet potatoes, which are starchy, yellow potatoes or red potatoes, depending on what I have on hand. Russets yield crispier roasted potatoes, so if it's the crunch you are after, definitely use them. Yellow and red potatoes are creamier and more buttery flavored.

    Are air fryer potatoes healthy?

A serving of these potatoes has 121 calories, 2 grams of protein, 3 grams of dietary fiber and good quantities of nutrients, including vitamin C and calcium. These are far healthier than fried potatoes and can satisfy a craving for potatoes without the accompanying guilt.

Should I soak the potatoes before air frying?

French fries are often soaked before they are fried to remove the excess starch. You don't need to do that with this air fryer potatoes recipe, but if you do, it will only improve your results and yield a crunchier potato. To soak the potatoes, fill a large bowl with water and let the cut potatoes steep for 10-15 minutes. Remove the potatoes to a colander and rinse them. Pat them thoroughly dry before adding seasonings.

Do I need to boil the potatoes before putting them in the air fryer?

No need to boil first, you should add raw potatoes to the air fryer basket. They will cook through perfectly.

Can I make air fryer potatoes without oil?

These potatoes can easily be made without oil. Coat the cubed potatoes with the seasonings, place in the air fryer basket and air fry as directed. The oil-free potatoes won't be as crispy but they will taste very good.

How long do I need to air fry the potatoes?

This depends on the size and cut of the potatoes. If you cut the potatoes in a ½-inch dice, as I did, you will need 16 minutes in the air fryer. If you would like to cut the potatoes in 1-inch chunks, give them 18 minutes. You can pull the potatoes out of the air fryer sooner if you want softer, juicier potatoes, or let them go for the full 16 or 18 minutes for crisper potatoes. Make sure to toss them around twice during air frying so they cook evenly.
You can also make air fryer potato wedges using this recipe. Cut the potatoes in 1-inch thick wedges and air fry them for 18-20 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

Why are my air fryer potatoes not crispy?

For the crispiest potatoes do not skip the optional step for soaking the potatoes. Dry them thoroughly. Eat the potatoes as soon as they come out of the air fryer because they will lose their crispness the longer they stand around. Also, if you make the roast potatoes without oil they won't be as crispy although they will taste great.
